Race for the Cure Registration Opens with Promising Changes

New Location… New Office… Renewed Fight.

(JACKSONVILLE)—In celebration and honor of Sunday’s National Cancer Survivors Day, Susan G. Komen® North Florida officially opened registration for its 22nd Race for the Cure, hosted at the St. Johns Town Center on October 15, 2016.

With the location change from Metro Park, Komen® North Florida has already experienced increased interest and expects a substantial jump in attendance, so the Affiliate urges early registration to secure your spot.

“We’ve received an incredible amount of support and excitement from sponsors, the Town Center and participants during pre-registration,” says Executive Director Delores Wise. “We’re grateful for this immediate response and recommend runners register early.”

The 8K run kicks off at 7:30 a.m., with the 5K and 2K immediately following. Participants must register online, by mail, or in-person prior to or on Race Day. This year, to promote the eight warning signs of breast cancer, Komen North Florida adds an 8K to its schedule. Official route maps will be available in July. Runners can anticipate the new routes to begin and end at Target; stretch from the new Baptist/Wolfson Children’s emergency center to Gate Parkway and through the main Town Center shopping corridor.

Komen North Florida also experienced another promising change this year, relocating its office from Mandarin to Downtown Jacksonville in May.

“Our new location places us in the heart of our community,” says Development Director Cynthia Kruty. “We’re eager to build relationships and a presence with North Florida’s leaders, so we can continue to get closer to our ultimate goal: a cure for breast cancer.”
